Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about Ikigai and how the test works.
Ikigai (生き甲斐) is a Japanese concept meaning 'a reason for being.' It describes the sweet spot where four elements overlap: what you love, what you are good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. Finding your Ikigai is associated with greater life satisfaction, motivation, and resilience. Learn more about Ikigai.

Each pillar is the average of two of your four scores (Love, Skill, World Need, Paid). The overall Ikigai score is the average of all four. If you selected Explorer or Beginner as your experience level, the raw Skill score is adjusted by 0.85 to account for the tendency to over-estimate skills at early stages. Learn how to use your score.
Experience level (Explorer → Expert) adapts the wording of the scoring questions to match your familiarity with the interest. It also applies a skill adjustment for early-stage experience levels, giving you a more realistic Ikigai picture rather than an inflated one.
