1. Overview

ikigai-test.online ("we", "our", or "us") is a free tool that helps you explore your Ikigai — your sense of purpose — by scoring interests across four pillars: passion, mission, vocation, and profession. We are committed to being transparent about how we handle data. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

2. Information We Collect

We do not collect any personally identifiable information (PII) such as names, email addresses, or account credentials. The only data we process is:

  • Interest selections and scores — the interests you choose and the scores you assign during the assessment. This data is anonymous and contains no information that could identify you.
  • Quiz results — when you finish a quiz, its result is added to anonymous totals. That covers each quiz's result, including your Burnout Check level and your What's Holding You Back? result, your four career-fit answers, and from the Ikigai test your selected interests, top interest and category, experience level, score range and the four scores for your top interest. If you've taken the Ikigai Type Test, we also count your type together with your result on the values, strengths, career interests, cause, side hustle and chronotype quizzes. Custom interests are counted only as "custom", never as text.
  • Browser language preference — stored in local storage to remember your selected language (English or Spanish).

3. How We Store Data

Your saved results live in your browser. In our database (Amazon DynamoDB, hosted on AWS in the US) we keep anonymous totals of quiz results, grouped by month, for statistics. These totals are kept permanently and aren't linked to you. We don't store your name, email, IP address, device ID, the exact time you finished, the text of custom interests, or your statement-by-statement answers. Results that were shared with the older link feature are automatically deleted within 30 days via a time-to-live (TTL) mechanism, and no backups are retained beyond that period.

Session progress is also saved locally in your browser's localStorage under the key ikigai-store, so you can resume if you refresh the page. This data stays on your device. Your Ikigai Character card is made in your browser, so it only leaves your device if you post or send it yourself. If you take the Burnout Check, your individual answers are not saved at all; only a three-level result is kept in localStorage. That result is added to the anonymous totals above, and is never shown on your card or passed to analytics. The same applies to What's Holding You Back?: your answers are not saved, and only your top result is kept in localStorage and added to the anonymous totals.

4. Cookies and Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site (for example, which pages are viewed and how long visits last). Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies to collect anonymous usage data such as pages visited, approximate location, and device and browser type. We do not use this data to identify you.

You can opt out of Google Analytics by installing the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or by blocking cookies in your browser settings. For more information, see how Google uses data when you use our site.

5. Affiliate Links

Our Learn More and results pages contain affiliate links to Blinkist, tracked by the Impact partnership platform. If you click one of these links and subscribe, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend books and resources we genuinely believe are valuable.

6. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or rent your data to third parties. Google Analytics operates independently under its own privacy policy.

7. Your Rights

Since we collect no PII, there is no personal profile to access, correct, or delete. However:

  • You can clear your local session data at any time by clearing your browser's local storage for this site.
  • Any result shared with the older link feature will be automatically deleted within 30 days.
  • Quiz totals aren't linked to anyone, so they can't be traced back to you or deleted for one person.
  • You can opt out of Google Analytics using the opt-out browser add-on.

8. Children's Privacy

This site is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
